Have you ever fallen in love unexpectedly? It has happened to me recently and I have fallen in a big way. It was not something I expected to happen but to my surprise it just crept up on me. I wasn’t looking for love and I really didn’t think anything was missing from my life but suddenly – whoosh –there it was. Now, I know a blog is not really a place to declare a new love but I now just want to tell the world. I love Norway! There, I’ve said it. It’s out in the open – live with it.
Previously, when asked, I used to say that I thought that the most beautiful place in the world was Scotland but now I have been seduced by the charms of the stunning Norwegian countryside.
Let me explain. I was invited train the charming people from TV Norge - one of Norway's largest commercial TV stations, at a conference centre two hours outside Oslo. When we arrived there, it was a stunning complex nestled in a forest by the side of a fjord. I was greeted by the charismatic programme director Eivind Landsverk and his talented team led by the delightful Benedicte Steinsrud. The group were not only courteous, fun and kind but also thirsty for knowledge on psychology and pitching. The lecture and training went by so fast in a whirl of heady mutual affection that before I had time to draw breath it was time to leave for the airport. This trip was destined to seal my love.
To get me back to the airport on time, they had booked me a helicopter. It landed on the roof of the conference hotel and making only a brief pause, to swoop down to see all the delegates on the balcony warmly waving me goodbye, whisked me over the fjord and above the tree line. The view from the helicopter was astonishingly spectacular as one fjord after another seemed to emerge like brilliant jade jewels from between the carpet of trees. For the next twenty minutes my heart sang as we rose and fell on pockets of air over the most beautiful vista I had ever seen. By the time we landed, my love was sealed.
Isn’t it good - Norwegian wood.
