Getting Ziggy With It
I recently had the pleasure to lecture at the International Conference of Human resources in Monte Carlo. This was a very special event, aimed at business leaders, directors, managers, sales people, marketing executives, and entrepreneurs who want to acquire more expertise in the area of communication, to use in the business world.
It was a fascinating event partly because of the interesting location but mainly because of the Internationally renowned team of great speakers assembled. I had previously worked with the excellent Owen Fitzpatrick, Brian Colbert and Poll Moussoulides and knew of their great qualities in getting their message across, but I was also looking forward to working with new people, especially Tom Ziglar. Tom is the son of, in my opinion, one of the all time great motivational speakers - Zig Ziglar - and was with us in Monaco to present The Ziglar Formula.
Tom Ziglar shares not only a last name with his father but he also carries on his philosophy; “You can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want.”
Whilst, at first glance, Tom didn’t have the initial instant dynamism of his father, Tom is one of the most impressive people I have met, as he has that rare quality of not needing to shout to get his message heard. He has a calm dignity, humour and honesty that make his delivery of his father’s message utterly compelling. He is confident enough not to try to compete with his father’s massive charisma but does something so authentic and human in both his on and off stage persona that I, like the audience, was completely charmed.
In a world where some public speakers fight to be seen as the most passionate by getting louder and more animated, it was wonderful to witness simple integrity of message hold an audience rapt.
It’s not often that I can say this, yet I am very pleased to have gotten to know Tom and I think that being the kind of man he is, he might protest that he is simply passing on the wonderful messages his father has laid down over decades. However, I have to say that the dignified and eloquent way he embodies the Ziglar values is a complete credit to his father and his heartfelt message that has enhanced the lives of millions.
