And the award goes to...
I am never usually that keen to go to an awards ceremony. As a general rule, they are overly long with bad food, cheap wine and MC’s/presenters who don’t know how to work a cavernous room filled with drunks. However, I was invited to the B2B Marketing Awards by the lovely and talented PR guru Jill Franklin of Franklin Rae so I thought that, at the very least, our table would be fun. Franklin Rae were up for the award for PR Agency of the Year against some very stiff opposition.
The evening got off to a very good start as the venue – the HAC – was perfectly suited to the occasion and the champagne flowed. The table was filled with smart and lively people from companies such as Duke and Earl, ChilliBean and Coutts.
The spirits were enlivened even more by the fact that the MC was the superb Tim Minchin (seemingly last year Frankie Boyle had demonstrated how not to win over an audience). Tim started with two wonderfully funny songs including the hilarious Inflatable You. ‘ Your skin is so smooth I couldn’t afford you with hair. You have all the holes real girls have plus one for the air’. He was charming, smart, in control and struck just the right note of irreverence about marketing. It was an object lesson in how to pitch.
The evening ended on another high as Franklin Rose deservedly won PR Agency of the Year. The champagne flowed long into the night.
